Simple Pages That Get the Job Done Now!
As you can tell, I am not into flash and bang on the Web. I see the World Wide Web as an amazingly varied tool and medium. Some people on the Web are primarily interested in having fun or showing off. They don't mind waiting a bit, if it means a more exciting experience.
For myself, I am more interested in getting things done, and I chafe under the delays imposed by Web designers who can't resist the latest wiz-bang extension. We are told that a page must grab the visitor's attention. However, how attention grabbing is a two minute stare at a blank screen?
Thus, my goal is to build pages that are attractive, easy to understand, quick to load, and easy to maintain. Furthermore, I try to make sites that anyone can use, without any restrictions on browser or accessibility problems. Thus I minimize graphics (especially animation,) and advanced formatting tools.
